Ibrahimovic could make shock Man Utd return, United want competition for De Gea

Manchester United are reportedly targeting a shock reunion with former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a bid to solve their lack of options up front and they also want competition for De Gea.

The 38-year-old star had departed Old Trafford for MLS side LA Galaxy in 2018, after netting 29 goals during his two-season spell with the top flight giants.

But Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claim that United could be tempted to re-sign Ibrahimovic in a desperate search for striking reinforcements

Zlantan has also been linked with former club AC Milan, but the Mail Online are reporting that it's another of his former clubs that are keen to take him back, with United targeting a reunion with the Swede in January.

Ibrahimovic had lifted the Europa League and Carabao Cup with United under Jose Mourinho, and even scored the last-gasp winner against Southampton in the latter competition.

Successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have struggled to tuck away chances at times this campaign, and a potential move for Juventus frontman Mario Mandzukic had also been touted in the summer.

And after the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan, Ibrahimovic appears to have emerged as a priority target for United.

The towering striker scored 31 goals in as many games for LA Galaxy, and bagged eight assists, in all competitions - and also netted in the club's conference semi-final defeat by rivals Los Angeles FC.

The ex-Juventus and Barcelona man will likely become a free agent in January, and has been linked with switches to Serie A outfits AC Milan and Bologna in recent weeks.

In other news, Manchester United have joined the race to sign highly-rated Ajax stopper Andre Onana, despite current keeper David de Gea only signing a new contract worth £115 million in September.

The Sun report that the Premier League club are competing with domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur and French champions Paris Saint-Germain to sign Onana, who is valued at £50 million by Ajax.
