Man dies after dangling upside down from 290ft chimney in Carlisle for more than 14 hours
First responders scrambled to the chimney in Carlisle after the alarm was raised by locals at 2.20am on Tuesday, October, 29.
Footage emerged showing the man, who appeared not to be wearing a top, hanging by his legs from Dixon’s Chimney after witnesses reported hearing shouting and wailing.
Cumbria Police said the man, aged in his fifties, had died shortly before 5pm.
A police spokesman said in a statement:
The man was reported traded at about 2.20am today and a rescue operation was launched and a multi-agency effort was later convened.
It is however currently unclear what led the man to scale the structure - a Grade II listed building raised in 1836 when it was the largest chimney in the country.

We can confirm that a man who was trapped at height on Dixon’s Chimney in Carlisle and later recovered during a multi-agency operation has been confirmed as deceased.
Paramedics pronounced the man in his fifties and from Carlisle deceased at the scene at 4.46pm.
The man was reported traded at about 2.20am today and a rescue operation was launched and a multi-agency effort was later convened.
