Three people including a student sent to jail for illegal residency in north Cyprus

Three persons living and working in the TRNC without resident and work permit were identified and detained over the weekend.

The accused identified only as A.J, R.E and U.M were arrested in an operation by Turkish Cypriot police between 10:00pm and 11:55pm on Saturday in Haspolat.

They were arrested and taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of working and living in the country without a resident and work permit.

Among those arrested is a Bangladesh national, who came to the country on February, 2, 2017 with a pre-work permit. He was dismissed from work after five months and his work permit stopped but did not leave the country.

One of the other two accused who were arrested following a search in a residence in Haspolat had stopped going to school because he could not pay his school fees. He entered the TRNC on February, 14, 2018 with a student visa and enrolled with a university but could not continue due to lack of money

The third person came into the country on February, 22, 2017 and obtained a work permit on September, 15, 2017. His work permit was later cancelled but he remained in the country illegally.

They were detained foe three days on court order pending full investigation.
