Student who was arrested for assaulting girlfriend in the middle of the road in Lapta, displays in court

A 26-year-old student has been arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot police after his girlfriend ran to the police for help for fear of be strangled.

The incident happened at about 6:00pm in Tahir Tuzundu street in Lapta on Tuesday.

According to report, the girl was beaten by her boyfriend for staying in another house for several days. 

She went to the police to complain and was escorted home only to be attacked again by her boyfriend in front of the police. 

According to police report, the boy wrapped his hands around the girl's throat with his two hands.

He was arrested on the spot.

He was taken to a court in Girne on Wednesday on charges of assault.

Report say, he began to display in court by lying motionless on the court hall.

Police say they will investigate if he has a resident permit and registered with any university in the country.
