Man hold mother and sister hostage in Lapta, stabs police

A man has been detained for holding his mother and sister hostage and stabbing a police officer with a knife in Lapta, north Cyprus.

The incident happened at about 1:15am on Wednesday at their residence in Lapta.

The accused identified only as S.I reportedly held his mother and sister hostage and then assaulted  a police officer who intervened with a bread knife.

The accused then escaped from the scene of the incident but was arrested two hours later on the same street.

He was taken to a court in Girne on charges of wounding, deliberate damage, police assault and illegal knife carrying.

The officer who was injured on his left pelvis was taken to the hospital for treatment.
