Girl uncovers her dad's 20-year affair with her aunt, should she tell her mom?

A family face being torn apart after a dad's 20-year affair with a relative was seemingly discovered on Facebook .

In a Reddit post , the user says they found out their dad has been secretly seeing their aunt, the woman who is married to their mum's brother.

The poster explains that they are very close with that side of the family and often spend the holidays celebrating with them.

We'll call the Reddit user Jordan, their dad Peter and the aunt Catherine to make it easier to follow.

Recently, one of Jordan's cousins accidentally opened Catherine's Facebook and saw a conversation between her and Peter full of 'god awful sexting'.

Jordan wrote:

She immediately called me (I honestly thought she was joking as it was so unbelievable). I told her to take as many photos of the conversation as she could and not to hang up.
Then she impulsively called my aunt to confront her and the aunt had the audacity to immediately delete the entire thing as they were talking, while explaining that is was just a joke.
I got the first train I could and came over to my cousin's house and the rest of the day was just us reading the copies (my cousin was so furious she printed it all out).

The pair told the rest of their cousins what they had discovered and decided to give Catherine a week to confess before copies of the explicit conversation were shown to her husband and Jordan's mum.

Honestly, what the f*** do I do? Jordan continued.
The fact that my father is capable of this did not surprise me, but I know it was heartbreaking for my cousins as they’re close with their mum (and I am as well) and I cannot even imagine how my mum would react.
I know she would have to make the decision on her own, but as I have a nine-year-old sister I think she won’t let anyone know how hurt she is and remain in the marriage for the sake of my sister.

Your mom absolutely needs to know, do NOT fall for the age old 'I need to hide this to protect her' fallacy. It will hurt her, but she deserves the truth.
Also, I think it's a HUGE mistake to give it a week. You've said yourself she's never gonna confess it, so all you're doing is giving your dad and your aunt time to go to ground and map a strategy, maybe clean up the bank accounts and god knows what else.

Jordan seemed to take the advice by adding an update that the mum had been told, who has admitted she is in a toxic relationship and now wants out.

The aunt is staying in the town she works in, Jordan's dad is staying with his dad and 's*** is finally going down' - despite the beloved cheaters blaming the children for uncovering the whole thing.
