22kg of drugs found in suitcase at Ercan airport
Turkish Cypriot police have arrested two people after they found 22 kilograms of drugs on a luggage at Ercan Airport.
According to police report, customs officers carried out a search on a luggage belonging to a 51-year-old man who came into the country as a tourist at about 2:15am on Saturday at the airport.
Police found substance believed to be about 20 kilograms of cannabis-type drugs and other substance of about 2 kilograms.
The substance is worth about 4 million Turkish Lira, said police.
The suspect, a Russian citizen identified as Igor Yusin to police “I didn't know what was in the suitcase”.
He was sent to jail pending trial.
