Turkish couple sentenced to life in prison for murder of their landlord
A Turkish couple who were accused of murdering a man in March 2018 in Alsancak have been sentenced to life in prison by A Girne court.
Mehmet and Mary Doğu were convicted of the murder of Memduh Ulugün in the Kyrenia Assize Court on Friday.
The Kyrenia Court found the couple guilty of “committing murder”, “manslaughter” and “unlawful possession of knife at the trial held on Monday, in which the hearing was postponed to Friday.
After the court's Monday hearing, the judge found the defendants guilty.
Extensive security measures were taken in the court area on Friday due to an incident in the court yard and the attacks on prosecutors by the defendants' relatives on Monday.
