South Africa: Xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals must stop

South Africa has regularly made international headlines for the ongoing attacks on foreigners, mostly from Africa, which have included killing many, injuring many more and destroying businesses owned by the foreigners, claiming they are stealing South African jobs and are involved in crime operations in the country.

The campaign, known as "Buyelekhaya" (go back home), blamed foreigners for crime, unemployment and sexual attacks.

Since the attacks and killings started, over hundreds of people have been killed and properties destroyed and looted.

Fresh violence broke out in the Jeppestown area of Johannesburg on Sunday, which has left three persons dead and one person in the hospital being treated for smoke inhalation.

As at on Tuesday, the killings and raiding went up on another level and the south African government are yet to take a decisive step on the issue.

This increasing attacks on foreigners in the country must be stopped at once before it degenerate into a full scale war.

Africans should be allowed to stay wherever they chose to stay in Africa.

What are your thoughts on the issue?
