Video of police assaulting a man at Ercan airport goes viral, police takes action

A video showing a Turkish Cypriot police man assaulting a man at Ercan airport has been circulated on social media and has drawn the attention of authorities.

The incident reportedly happened on June, 13 when a police officer physically assaulted a man.

The victim who is said to be drunk with excessive alcohol had an issue with the officer over a mobile phone on the x-ray device which resulted to shouting and verbal cursing from the victim.

The video showed the moment a police officer kicked and dragged the unidentified man laying on the floor.

Legal proceedings has been initiated against the accused police officer.

An administrative investigation was initiated against the police who acted in a manner that we never approved of against the person in question and acted in a manner that would damage the reputation of the Police Organization, a police statement reads.

The officer involved has been suspended and those who saw it to face disciplinary committee.
