Turkish man rearrested in Lefkosa for assaulting wife
An illegal and jobless Turkish resident in Cyprus has been arrested and detained in Lefkosa for beating his wife and threatening her with violence.
The suspect, Hamit Elver was first arrested on June 18 in Küçük Kaymaklı, Lefkosa and again on June 29 in Ortakoy district, Lefkosa for threatening his wife with violence and assault.
He was accused of beating his wife due to financial issues.
He reportedly went to his wife in Ortakoy to discuss the issue after he was released and threatened her with violence.
Police said the accused entered the TRNC with a 30-day visa on December 27, 2011, after which the legal period expired, but he failed to get a resident permit.
He was granted amnesty on May, 16, 2012 but also failed to renew his residency after it expired.
The Senior Judge ordered the suspect to remain in jail for a period not exceeding one month until trial.
