Obasanjo may have been brutally murdered - Police report

An initial report by the police on the murder of Nigerian student, Obasanjo Adeola Owoyale who was found dead in the boot of his car parked near the Martyr Hussein Ruso Middle School in Lefkosa on Monday afternoon revealed that he may have been brutally murdered. 

Obasanjo, 33 was declared missing on Monday, July 1 after he left his home in Gonyeli and never returned. 

A massive search was lauched for him by friends and the police and on Monday, July, 8, his body was discovered in the boot of a car parked near a school in Lefkosa.

Police were alerted to the scene at about 1:15pm on Monday after residents noticed a fowl smell in the area.

Arriving the scene, police found a car with a trace of blood belonging to Obasanjo that has also been declared missing. 

They searched the car and found a body wrapped in a blanket inside the trunk of the car.

Initial report by the police said that his feet was tied with a belt and a first examination on the body revealed that he had a large cut on his head which revealed a brutal murder.

The body was taken to the Lefkosa State Hospital where an autopsy was carried out. Police said the result of the autopsy will be made known when it is ready. 

According to information from local media, a large number of credit cards was found in the car including some bank statements.

It was also learnt that he visited a bank in Lefkosa on Friday, June, 28.

An unconfirmed report say he might have been murdered in Girne and then brought to Lefkosa. 

The police have launched a wide scale investigation into the incident and are reviewing all camera images in the area.

Obasanjo is a PhD student in Architecture at the International Cyprus University (CIU), and has been living the TRNC since 2013.

The Cyprus International University on Tuesday issued a condolence message to his family and friends. 

We are sorry to hear the loss of our student OBASANJO ADEOLA OWOYALE from the PhD Program. May God rest his soul. We would like to express our condolences to his family, friends and all the CIU family, the university wrote on it's website.
