Five prisoners go on hunger strike at Lefkosa prison
Five prisoners at the Lefkosa Central Prison, has refused to eat for at least five days after launching a hunger strike for not being transferred to Turkey.
Nearly 50 inmates are waiting extradition to Turkey, according to report by Turkish Cypriot daily, Yeniduzen.
The five prisoners who are among the 560 prisoners held at the Lefkosa prison have been waiting for five years to be returned to Turkey.
According to the Central Prison Regulation, a ban on visitors from 1 month to 3 months can be imposed against the hunger strike initiated by prisoners and freedom of communication can be prevented.
