Nigerian-American poet, Iyeoka Okoawa performed at Salamis summer concerts in North Cyprus on Tuesday

Summer concerts at the Salamis ruins featured Nigerian-American poet, singer, activist, educator and Ted Global Fellow Iyeoka Okoawa along with Turkish rock band Athena as part of a Gazimağusa festival line-up including opera and ballet from Turkey. 

Iyeoka took the stage on the 23rd International Famagusta Culture, Arts and Tourism festival programme launched on Tuesday, June 18, with nine dates leading up to the concert finale on Friday, July 5.

Young Turkish chart-topper Aleyna Tilki launches the season with a 9pm public concert in the town's Namık Kemal Square.

The Konya-born 19-year-old Turkey's Got Talent semi-finalist settled in Los Angeles in 2017 after she shot to fame with the hit Cevapsız Çınlama, which scored 430 million views on YouTube, and the Turkish number one hit Sen Olsan Bari.
