The toughest win of my whole career - Guardiola
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said his side's Premier League title was the toughest honour he has won in his career.
After a string of success in Spain with Barcelona and Germany with Bayern Munich, Guardiola won the Premier League at his second attempt last season.
His City side had to hold off a Liverpool team managed by Jurgen Klopp that lost just one league game all season, and finished only a point behind them after 38 games.
Guardiola praised his rivials, saying:
We have to say congratulations to Liverpool and thank you so much, they pushed us to increase our standards.
It's incredible, 98 points, to go back-to-back. We made the standard higher last season and Liverpool helped us. To win this title we had to win 14 (league games) in a row. We couldn't lose one point.
It's the toughest title we have won in all my career, by far.
It will be tougher next season. But we’ll be stronger too. To win two in a row in this league, in this country, with all these incredible managers and players, when everybody invests so much money ... it’s because we have done really, really well.
I’m sorry, but that’s the reality. I have the feeling next season that we’ll be back. We’ll try to be who we are now.
