Lefkosa-Guzelyurt overpass to open in May

The Lefkoşa-Güzelyurt high way overpass project in Gonyeli will be completed at the beginning of May, the Mayor of Gönyeli Ahmet Benli said on Wednesday.

The section of the main road has been closed for almost a year due to a court case filed by property owners in the area.

Traffic has been diverted to service roads running parallel to the main road, resulting in congestion.

Speaking to reporters today, Benli said that the public, mainly those travelling to Lefkoşa from Güzelyurt and surrounding areas, had suffered greatly due to the stalled project.

I would like to thank the public for their patience. The plaintiffs who demanded 2.1 million GBP and the demolition of the overpass lost the court case, said Benli.

He said that if weather conditions permit, the overpass would be open to traffic in the first week of May.

Benli also said that the service roads, which were seriously eroded and worn down during this period, would undergo repairs.
