All market and supermarkets to close on May 1 in North Cyprus

All markets and supermarkets will be closed on May 1, it has been announced.

The decision was taken at a meeting on Wednesday between the Minister of Labour and Social Security Zeki Çeler and supermarket representatives.

An agreement was reached at the meeting for all supermarkets and smaller markets to be closed on May 1st Workers Day.

Supermarkets which will choose to remain open will have to pay double wages for the day.

All establishments that fail to abide by the decision will be subject to fines, the Labour Ministry has announced.
