Turkish Cypriot man beats wife in the middle of the street in Lefkosa
Man who assaulted his wife in the middle of the street in Lefkosa, on Wednesday night has been banned from leaving the country on court order.
The accused, a Turkish Cypriot, Ahmet Sivri beat his wife in the middle of the street at about 12:00am on Wednesday night until she became unrecognizable.
According to police report, the accused allegedly beat the victim over a phone call. The victim's father could not recognize her when he visited his daughter in the hospital.
He was arrested and taken to a court in Lefkosa on Wednesday on charges of serious assault.
Speaking in court, the accused said he is a good husband and father.
He was released on bail by the court and banned from leaving the country until trial.
