Haspolat, Hamitkoy and Lefkosa submerged in flood due to heavy rain (photos)

Heavy rain and storms on Friday night caused severe flooding in several parts of Cyprus destroying several properties. 

A section of the Lefkosa-Famagusta highway was closed to traffic due to heavy rain that caused the area to be severely flooded.

Worst hit is the section of the road between Hamitkoy in Haspolat and Lefkosa which were submerged in water and a nearby river burst its bank.

Several cars were left stranded in the flood while access to the Ercan airport affected due to heavy traffic in the area.

Several roads in Lefkosa were temporary blocked due to the rainfall but were later opened.

In other areas, landslides and water running off the mountains also caused damage at Taskent and Degirmenlik with several homes and businesses affected.
