Two men arrested after worker dies at construction site

Police have arrested two men in connection with the death of a worker at a hotel construction site in Gönyeli. 

Beyazit Temiz, 29, had fallen 11 metres from the sixth floor of the building after losing his balance on scaffolding. He had fallen on the concrete ground and immediately died at the scene of the accident, which took place on Sunday.

The director of the construction site, identified as Ö.G., 76, and the director of the subcontractors, identified as C.K., 40, were arrested.

According to a statement by the Labour and Social Security Ministry, work continued at the site, despite the accident.

In this tragic accident, before Labour Department inspectors had arrived at the scene, the subcontractors continued to lay concrete.  The site was shut down by inspectors, said the statement.

The investigation continues.
