Two Cypriots arrested in Nigerian goal keeper Francis Uzoho's case
Greek Cypriot police on Tuesday arrested a couple from Nicosia in a bid to quicken investigations into the case of the health certificate issued to Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
A 36 year old woman from Nicosia which is involved in the issuing of health certificates and her 41 year old husband were arrested on the charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and intervention in court proceedings, police reported on Tuesday.
According to goal.com.cy, the two are neighbours of Kyriacos Yiangou, Anorthosis’ vice-president who has been held in custody since Saturday.
Yiangou is expected to be released later today.
Uzoho, 20, joined the team on loan from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna on January 31.
Barely 24 hours after his move to Anorthosis , Uzoho made a winning debut against Apollon Limassol, but the losing club filed a protest citing irregularities in the mandatory health certificate issued to the Nigerian by Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA).
Apollon have questioned the validity of the health card, questioning how Anorthosis were able to acquire the document in time.
Apollon claim that Uzoho arrived in Cyprus at 4:05 pm on Friday 1 February and that KOA department had already shut at 2:30 pm that same day.
Yiangou was arrested and remanded in custody for three days on Saturday, after Uzoho reportedly told police that he was on an airplane to Cyprus when his health fitness card was being issued.
