Abandoned Lefkosa - Güzelyurt highway overpass in Gonyeli: Finish it or take it down! groups tells TRNC authorities

A Güzelyurt Action Committee group has called on the Municipality of Gönyeli, the TRNC Ministry of Transport and the Court to take immediate action on the abandoned overpass crossing project along the Gonyeli -Güzelyurt highway or risk more actions.

The group who gathered again at the project site on Saturday last week to voice their displeasure over the abandonment of the underpass project called on authorities to either complete the project or take it down.

The group had on December, 20, 2018 carry out a protest at the site where they gave authorities one month to do something about it.

During the protest, they called on the Municipality of Gönyeli, the Ministry of Transport and the Court to solve the problem and open the road to citizens.

The group expressed it's dissatisfaction with authorities for ignoring their call for the road to be opened to citizens, one month after they issued an order.

The group however warned that its subsequent actions would be more crowded and more serious.

The project which started in April, 2018 has been abandoned for over seven months due to a court injunction after residents and business owners filed for it's cancellation.

The subway project that connects Gönyeli and Yenikent has been abandoned since June after work reached an advanced stage.

The project was abandoned because of an interim decision by a court.People traveling to Guzelyurt are facing difficulties trying to by-pass the bridge and faces lots of traffic on the roads.

They accused the Gonyeli munipality for carrying out the subway project without consulting the residents and doing proper planning.
