Turkish Cypriot postman arrested for stealing posts gets job at Highways Dept

A Turkish Cypriot postman who was arrested and suspended and awaiting trial for allegedly stealing thousands of incoming letters and packages over a seven-and-a-half-month period, and selling off electronic goods he found inside, was revealed this week to have been reemployed by the Highways Department.

Önder Ilgın was said to have been employed on full pay after being put on “gardening leave” eight months ago — but was dismissed by the Public Services Commission (KHK) on Thursday after an outcry about the appointment.

However it was reported that he would continue to receive the salary pending a verdict in the case.
