The chronicle of AmaechiTapes: A damning admission?

According to Senator Magnus Abe’s Wikipedia page “Chibuike Amaechi entered office in May 2007, Abe was appointed as Secretary to the State Government SSG.

He resigned to compete for the position of Senator for Rivers South East, but was then re-appointed as the Secretary to Rivers State Government.” He later ran for Senate in April 2011 and won, the only other thing remarkable about his career is he defected to All Progressives Congress (APC)on the 29th January 2014.

I came across the #AmaechiTapes on twitter. I tweeted my first thought “How do you confirm this audio?” Just hours later the Special Assistant to the President (Digital & New Media) Tolu Ogunlesi replied a tweet of the audio “Audio from 2014 or so. At the height of Amaechi’s fight with GEJ.”

In May 2013 Amaechi was suspended from the GEJ PDP by November the Minister of Transport announced his defection to APC. Making Tolu’s statement quite believable, all the 5 sec #AmaechiTape said was;

The president does not listen to anybody, He doesn’t care. You can write what you want to write. The president doesn’t care. Does he read?.

The full tape was released not long after, in which Amaechi allegedly declared,

The only way this country can change is if everybody is killed. This country is going nowhere.

I don’t think I can exaggerate what those beliefs imply. Also, the irony isn’t lost on me that Amaechi campaigned under the slogan of change in 2015. Even more damning was for how long he had allegedly held these beliefs.

Also stated in the tape “When Magnus (Abe) was my SSG, I told him that this country is hopeless and helpless”.

Senator Magnus left his service as SSG a position 8 years ago. He even bragged that even though Senator had previously disagreed with him on the fate of Nigeria had now come to see reason with him since their reunion in Abuja (Magnus Abe is running to Governor of Rivers state 2019).

In fact, there was one case of somebody in Onitsha, a trader in Onitsha who couldn’t sell his goats during Sallah. And I was with Oga on the plane and the man was busy abusing Buhari. 

He said,

Amaechi, come,what is my business with Onitsha goat seller?

Amaechi thought Nigeria was hopeless when he ran for governor in 2011, he believed that for Nigeria to change every man, woman and child had to die when he campaigned as an agent of change in 2015.

As Director-General of the Buhari-Osinbajo Presidential Campaign Committee, he believes that president Buhari does not read about the issues or care about the issues that Nigerians write or talk about.

The presidency has changed his stance on the #AnaechiTapes through Special Assistant to the President Tolu Ogunlesi stating on Twitter
