Icy roads, temperatures drop to -9 C overnight in Troodos, south Cyprus

In the coldest night so far this winter, temperatures fell to -9 C in Troodos with snow reaching as high as 60 cm on Mount Olympus and 50 cm at Troodos Square, all in south Cyprus.

Police are warning drivers that roads are icy while the met office is forecasting more rain and snow today, particularly in the afternoon. But temperatures are set to rise on Friday.

The Prodromos-Troodos  road is closed for all vehicles, said the police.

Police said that the road network is dangerous because of rain or ice in many areas and drivers are urged to be particularly careful.

Drivers are being cautioned to drive slowly and to keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
