A car with two passengers who were attempting to cross a flooded
river was swept into the river by a gushing torrent on Wednesday in the
Ayiou Therapon community area in Limassol, south Cyprus.
A rescue operation is in force as police are attempting to get the two to safety using the ‘Akritas’ police helicopter, while the fire service is also on alert, report Cyprus Mail.
According to the police, the two passengers appear to be uninjured and are in contact with the rescue team through mobile phone.
The incident was the fourth case on Wednesday that the fire service
has been called to rescue motorists being washed away by torrents after
attempting to cross flooded rivers, they said, calling on the public to
avoid such dangerous ventures either by foot or by car.
