North Cyprus police confiscate pork after food checks failure
The Turkish Cypriot police has launched legal action against the a Pork Shop operator in Alsancak, following an inspection by
Narcotic and Smuggling Prevention, and Customs teams.
Police teams carried out inspections at the butcher shop on Wednesday
and confiscated 145kg of pork meat, 5kg of sausages and three pig heads.
Some 245kg of pork meat was also found at the home of the 51-year-old
business owner – identified as H.U. – and was confiscated as evidence.
According to a police in a statement, the inspection found “slaughtering of pigs and production of pork meat
without veterinary food inspection.”
Legal action has been launched against the person in question and the investigation continues, said the police statement.
Police have also launched legal action against a 48-year-old man
identified as V.M. who operates Alsancak’s Goodies Food Ltd. after
inspections found the production and sale of alcohol without necessary
permit.
