20-year-old boy detained in south Cyprus for blackmailing girls into sending nude photos

A 20-year-old boy was on Monday detained for eight days in Nicosia, south Cyprus for allegedly blackmailing three underage girls between the ages of 12 and 14 into send him their naked photos on social media.

The man was arrested on Sunday after police received three reports against him by underage girls.

According to the head of the police cybercrime unit, the three girls, aged between 12 and 14, reported that the man had approached them through his Instagram account, and after chatting with them convinced them to send him their naked photos.
He then allegedly kept threatening them that he would publish the photos he had in his possession unless they sent him more photos.

Following a search in the 20-year-old’s house, police seized a mobile phone and a tablet. On the man’s mobile phone police found one of the fake social media accounts he was using.

He is being investigated for child sexual abuse and exploitation, child grooming, possession of child pornography and electronic forgery.
