Turkish Cypriots march against gender violence in Lefkosa

Hundreds of Turkish Cypriot took to the streets of Lefkosa on Sunday to protest against the vioience against women in the country.

The march organised by the Association of Women to Support Living (KAYAD) gathered protesters in Lefkosa at about 10:30 am on Sunday and marched against gender violence, as part of event to mark November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Among the participant is Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.

Since the creation of the TRNC, in 1983, there had been 181 murders, 53 of the victims were women, a disproportionately high number.
