Pedestrian bridge constructed on the Haspolat roundabout after student was hit by a car

After a student was run over by a vehicle at an accident black spot near the Haspolat roundabout on November 8, a long-delayed safety measure to the dual carriageway are now under way.

A student, Evrim Atlan, 23, was struck by a car while using a controversial zebra crossing on the Lefkoşa-Gazimağusa road, just opposite the Cyprus International University (CIU).

The black spot notorious for the danger it poses to human life has been criticised by road safety experts for being barely visible and “unsuitable and dangerous” for such a location. 

A new bus stop for the Haspolat and Magusa bus has now been constructed and works are also ongoing on the road.
