Fire outbreak in EMU dorm
Two people were taken to the hospital for treatment after fire broke out in a dormitory at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta on Sunday evening.
The fire reportedly occurred at dormitory room number 122 in 4B/ Block at about 6:00pm on Sunday.
According to police report, the fire started as a result of an air conditioning faulty circuit.
The fire was extinguished by firefighters.
The dorm indoor unit and curtain were burned. The window glass and fluorescent lamp were damaged due to heat.
Several items in the room were also damaged by the fire.
Two students, 22-year-old Rafia Hayat and 21-year-old Emre Gokalp, who were affected by smoke, were taken to Famagusta State Hospital and later discharged.
