Turkish student thrown from apartment balcony in Lefke, 3 Nigerian and 2 Zambian students arrested

Five African students including 3 Nigerians and 2 Zambians, has been arrested in Gemikonağı for allegedly throwing a 23-year-old Turkish student down from the fourth floor of an apartment building.

The victim, Saltuk Buğra ARICI, 23, a student of the European University of Lefke was reportedly thrown 7.30 meter down from the fourth floor of an apartment building at Salahi Mehmet Street by his neighbors after an altercation on Saturday afternoon.

Saltuk Buğra who is believed to be drunk was seriously injured in the incident and taken to the Lefkosa State Hospital and then the Near East Hospital where he is battling with his life.

Five students of the European University of Lefke, Northern Cyprus, including 3 Nigerians and 2 Zambians, S.A, .K.K, T.O, M.K and M.M, all between the ages of 24 and 27 were arrested and detained in connection with the incident. 

The suspects were brought to a Lefke court on Saturday on accusation of pushing Saltuk Buğra Arıcı, down, but they denied the allegation, claiming that the victim fell under the influence alcohol.

Prosecuting police witness, Inspector Fikri Binatlı, however insists that Arıcı, who was drunk, had an argument with the suspects and fell during the dispute.

The accused were ordered to remain in detention for three days while investigation is carried out.
