Cyprus biggest airline, Cobalt has collapsed!

After failing to reach a deal with a potential European investor, following the decision of its Chinese majority investor to suspend its investment in the airline, Cyprus largest airline, Cobalt has now collapsed and ceased all operations.

Cobalt on Wednesday night announced it was cancelling all flights as from 23.50 on October 17 due to the indefinite suspension of its operations.

As a result, future flights or services provided by Cobalt will be cancelled and will no longer operate, it said on its website.
Passengers who have un-flown tickets are instructed not to go to Larnaca Airport or any departure airport tomorrow, 18 October 2018 as no Cobalt flights will operate and no Cobalt staff will be present, it added.

For refunds, please contact your credit card provider or Travel Agent, the airline said.

We sincerely apologise once again and would like to thank our very loyal customers for their support over the last two years of Cobalt operations, the airline concluded.

Passengers will need to make their own arrangements, and your first point of call should be your travel insurer, as most policies cover airline collapse.

Passengers who booked directly with Cobalt Air using a credit or debit card may be able to make a claim against their card provider — another reason why it’s always safer to book flights using a credit card.

The airline was created in 2015 to fill in the gap left by Cyprus Airlines but barely managed to complete three years of existence.
