Tourist went into robbery after spending all he had on gambling

 
Man who came into the TRNC as a tourist lost all his money totaling about 20,000 Turkish Lira on casinos and gambling and then decided to steal in other to be able to return to his country.

Soner Aydas, who came into the country for the first time as a tourist on August, 17 went into gambling in casinos in Çatalköy region and lost about 20,000TL in the process.

After spending all he had on gambling, he decided to steal and according to him, he was stealing for the purpose of returning to his country.

The accused on August 25, at a hotel in the Çatalköy SPA area, opened a locker used by a 26-year-old UK tourist who was was a customer at the hotel, and stole 200 TL, 20 Euro cash and a Rolex brand wristwatch.

Not satisfied with this, the suspect, entered the residence of a 78 years old man, at Ozanköy on the 29th of August. He broke a safe box in the house with an axe and took money totaling 140,000 pounds, 1000 TL cash and 10,000 TL worth of laptop and disappeared.

After being identified and arrested on Sunday, the suspect, who was taken into custody confessed to the crimes in question ,and was taken to a court in Girne on Sunday.

Police said some of the stolen goods were found during a search made on his property. The suspect had also sold some of the stolen items.

He told the court that he came from Turkey and resorted to stealing after spending all he had on gambling.

He was detained for three days pending investigation.

Before his arrest, a woman who works in the hotel as a cleaner was arrested for stealing a wrist watch belonging to a UK tourist at the hotel in Catalkoy.
