The TRNC government will continue it's effort at minimizing the impact of the current economic crisis - TRNC PM
Efforts by the government of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus to minimize the impact of the current economic crisis due to the loss in
the value of the Turkish Lira will continue, said Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman.
Erhürman made the remarks while speaking at Ercan Airport upon his return from Ankara on Thursday afternoon, and according to him, he had held long and productive meetings with Turkish officials in Ankara.
He pointed out that his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had focused on the economic crisis and what could be done to minimize its impact on the Turkish Cypriot people.
Stating that he had also met with the Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay, Erhürman pointed out that the value of the TL against foreign currencies had fallen by 80% since his government had taken up office earlier this year.
He said that the latest figures released by the State Planning Organisation had shown everyone that the country had entered a risky period.
Erhürman pointed out that as always Turkey expressed its full support to the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people.
He noted that the government will continue to work towards minimizing the impact of the crisis.
He said that everyone was experiencing the effect of the crisis and that it was important for everyone to do their part in overcoming the problems being experienced.

A comparison of inflation rates between Turkey and the TRNC revealed that the TRNC has been experiencing much higher inflation. It shows that the impact of the crisis is being felt much more here in the TRNC. Last month’s inflation rate which was 8.42% was the highest recorded in the past 22 years. We conveyed all these and shared with Turkish officials what we need to do the most in overcoming this crisis. Despite Mr. Erdoğan’s busy schedule we met for two hours and following that meeting I had a working dinner with the vice president he said.
Erhürman pointed out that as always Turkey expressed its full support to the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people.
