Group of Greek Cypriots threatened to set forest on fire if Turkish Cypriots don’t get out of their property

A group of Greek Cypriots visiting the village of Karaman in north Cyprus allegedly “provoked” residents and threatened to set forests surrounding the village on fire “if they don’t get out”.

According to police report, police were called after a group of Greek Cypriots visiting the village of Karaman on Tuesday— among them one claiming to be an MEP — knocked on doors and allegedly threatened and “provoked” residents.

One house owner, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said photographs had been taken of properties in the centre of the predominantly foreign-owned village, and claimed the “dozens” of callers, who she had understood to be from the South’s far-right Elam political party, had even vowed to “set light to the forests” surrounding Karaman “if you don’t get out”.

They knocked on the door and asked to take pics of my house. They said it was Greek property and that I was occupying it, she said of the incident.
