Five Egyptians arrested in the TRNC territorial waters
Five Egyptians were arrested in the TRNC territorial waters on Friday morning while trying to enter the country illegally.
According to police report, police received a distress call at about 10:00am on Friday when a a coast guard team fishing in the sea saw a Greek ship about 7.5 miles off the sea.
Five unregistered Egyptians were found on the ship said the report.
They were arrested and the ship towed back to Girne Harbor by the Coast Guard.
But report from south Cyprus say the boat, a fishing vessel belonging to a Greek Cypriot was forced by a Turkish navy vessel to sail to north Cyprus, where its crew has been detained.
The boat had been out fishing in international waters between Akamas and Kormakitis at around 9am when it was approached by a Turkish naval vessel, whose crew boarded the fishing boat to carry out a search, the report said.
The boat was then escorted to Girne and the five crew members who are from Egypt arrested.
