Father and daughter seriously injured in motorcycle accident in Famagusta

A father and his daughter were seriously injured when he lost control of his motorcycle on a roundabout, in Famagusta striking a concrete barrier in the process.

They were on their way to watch a race on Sunday morning when 41 year old Mehmet Debreli with his 14 year old daughter Defne riding pillion, lost control of his 1000cc Honda motorbike which struck a concrete barrier while turning on the Mujahideen roundabout on the Famagusta-Karpaz main road.

Mehmet Debreli, who initially was taken to Famagusta State Hospital by ambulance, was transferred to the Near East Hospital’s intensive care unit suffering from broken ribs, a punctured lung and concussion. 

His daughter Defne remains in Famagusta State Hospital’s Neurology department with a fractured spine.

The police said that Debreli lost control of his motorcycle through carelessness and negligence while turning on the roundabout. Both father and daughter were wearing helmets at the time, it is reported. Meanwhile, police are continuing with their investigations.
