Bullet fired at 82-yr-old lady, lodges in her Bible
A bullet meant for an 82-year-old South African lady, Ms Nel,
reportedly got lodged in her bible after the assassins missed her by few
inches.
It was gathered that Ms Nel’s daughter, 61, and her 63-year-old boyfriend were beaten in their beds with the handle of a pick axe by the attackers and left with head injuries, and the Police have launched a manhunt for six suspects after firearms and mobile phones were stolen from the house.
Before the attack which occurred in Mahikeng, South Africa, 82-year-old Bettie Nel was woken by noises and encountered two attackers in the passage of her house. After throwing a doorstop at them, a shot was fired and the suspects fled.
News24
reported that the bullet missed Nel, and hit the Bible on the side
table next to her bed. This is coming amid continued violence against
white farmers in South Africa, as President Cyril Ramaphosa attempts to
quicken the pace of land reform.
While the South African President President dismissed fears
that South Africa may come under sanctions if it carries out a proposal
to expropriate white farms without compensation, it should also be
noted that the murder rate was up seven per cent in 2017/18 compared
with the previous year.
