Two women tried to escape from prison in Lefkosia despite being handcuffed
Two female prisoners at the Lefkosia Central Prison detained for drug offenses reportedly tried to escape from a police van.
The two women identified as Emine Kaplan and Mekisa Sen who were under guard had been taken to a Lefkosa hospital for medical check up.
After their medical checkup, the two women reportedly tried to escape from the police vehicle despite being handcuffed.
According to police report, the incident happened at about 1:15pm on Tuesday.
They were later arrested by the police after they were found under a bridge in the area.
One of the prisoner had been convicted for crime in the past while the other is waiting to be tried for drug crime.
