Turkish Cypriot man who shot and killed wife with a hunting riffle to remain in detention for three months
A Turkish Cypriot man who shot and killed his wife with a hunting riffle in their home in Doganci, north Cyprus has been sent to prison for three months before trial begins.
Ibrahim Erhalk, 61 shut and killed his 52-year-old wife, Nigar Tevfik Erhalkred with a hunting rifle at their home in Doganci on Friday July 27 following an argument.
He was arrested on the day of the incident and taken to a court in Lefke on charges of homicide, manslaughter and carrying illegal weapon.
Since then he has twice been ordered to remain in police detention for a combined seven day.
He was brought to court again on Friday where he was ordered to remain in police detention for three months.
The woman was buried on Friday at the Turkmenkoy cemetery following prayers at the Turkmenjoy Mosque.
The couple who had lived in London for a long time were in north Cyprus for vacation, as they always do every year.
They arrived the island on July, 11 with their two children, a boy and a girl.
The couple were said to be in the process of a separation.
