TRNC government to introduce cameras in tons to prevent crime
North Cyprus authorities has said it will introduce security cameras in towns to prevent crime in the country.
Interior Minister Aysegul Baybars on Monday said that work on
urban security was ongoing.
The minister explained that when looking at
modern countries, they were investigating what measures were taken
regarding crime prevention.
The interior minister said, the system would monitor and prevent criminal activity and would be able to record traffic offences.
Baybars explained that this system is both effective in controlling road traffic, vehicle registration and insurance of motor vehicles and also in preventing crime.
She said that a protocol was submitted to parliament, but there was also a draft of the Urban Security Law, that includes restrictions on the release of data to ensure personal privacy and observe the Law on the Protection of Personal Data.
The minister also stressed that both drafts are a priority for parliamentary debate when it re-opens.
Ms. Baybars said that her ministry continues to work with the relevant ministries and municipalities in the fight against crime using technology.
