TRNC government to begin tracking of foreign students who don't attend class as universities increase to 19

The number of universities operating in north Cyprus has increased to 19 with the addition of three new universities, while government will commence the monitoring of foreign students who don't go to school in the new semester. 

This was made known by the TRNC Minister of Education and Culture, Cemal Özyigit, who met with the rectors of the universities operating in the country on Thursday to discuss the Ministry's plan before the commencement of the 2018-19 academic year.

Rectors, and representatives from the various universities including the Eastern Mediterranean University, Girne American University, Near East University, Lefke European University, Cyprus International University, Middle East Technical University TRNC Campus, İstanbul Teknik University of Cyprus, Cyprus American University, Cypriot Social Sciences University, Cyprus University of Health and Social Sciences, International Final University, Ada Kent University, Bahcesehir Cypriot University, Arkın Creative Arts and Design University, University of Cyprus, Cyprus Karpaz University, Girne University, Cypriot University, Cyprus American University, Rauf Denktas University and Cypriot University were in attendance. 

Ozyigit who spoke during the meeting thanked the university authorities for the measures they took due to the increase in exchange rates. 
 
Ozyigit said that in recent years the contribution of the universities to the development in the country has been great.


He noted that the number of universities has increased to 19 in the new academic year. 

The new universities includes; Rauf Denktaş University, Arkın Creative Arts University and Cyprus Western University. 
 
Özyiğit stated that 14 of these 19 universities are registered to ÖSYM, 14 of them are the universities established according to the TRNC law, and 2 of them are METU and ITU campuses. 

 
He stated that there is a lot to be done in the new period especially on the record of Student Admission. 

 
Özyiğit pointed out that the Student Permit Application will start on the 30th of September and expressed that they have been working with the Ministry of Health, the Interior Ministry and the Muhaceret Department. 


He noted that the Student Tracking System will start at a point in time especially about the attendance of foreign students to the school, and also noted that amnesty for students was on the agenda.
