TRNC and Turkey marks Victory Day celebrations today

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus alongside Turkey will on Thursday mark 30th of August Victory Day with series of events.

This year marks the 96th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar, which was the final battle in the Turkish War of Independence led by the founder of modern Turkey Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The celebrations will begin with the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Lieutenant General Yılmaz Yıldırım and the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Derya Kanbay receiving well-wishers at the Cyprus Turkish Forces Regimental Command in the morning.

Two separate events will also be held in the capital Lefkoşa to mark the day.

The first will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk Monument where President Mustafa Akıncı, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Derya Kanbay and the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Lieutenant General Yılmaz Yıldırım will sign the special book.

The second event which will take place in Lefkoşa will be the military parade at the Doctor Fazıl Küçük Boulevard.

Meanwhile, similar ceremonies will also be held in Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt, İskele and Lefke to mark the day.
