‘Replace Turkish lira with the euro’ - TRNC trader Union leader

The TRNC is “drifting towards bankruptcy” and should abandon the Turkish lira in favour of the euro, a Turkish Cypriot trade union figure has urged.

Despite all our calls, the government has so far refused to take any action to switch to the Euro and appears to be awaiting instructions from Turkey, even though action is needed now, said Şener Elcil of the teachers’ trade union, Ktös.

He also urged the government to take measures including reducing the number of MPs and municipalities and cutting public sector salaries and spending.
