Paper Round: United chase £30m Mina as Maguire transfer stalls

Manchester United want Yerry Mina, Courtois may leave Chelsea on a free, Spurs might sign Lewis Cook and sell Marcus Edwards to Bayer Leverkusen.

United turn to Mina
Manchester United are less confident that they can sign Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. They are set to give the 25-year-old England international a new contract, despite being able to sell him for £65m. Instead, United will turn their attention to Toby Alderweireld, despite Spurs being tough negotiators, and Yerry Mina, according to The Mirror, who is available from Barcelona for just £30m.

Courtois may leave Chelsea on a free
Thibaut Courtois has been linked with Real Madrid
Chelsea may let Thibaut Courtois run down his contract rather than sell him to Real Madrid this summer, reports The Mail. That’s because although they are open to losing the Belgian international, they are only prepared to do so if they can replace him with a goalkeeper now and are struggling to do so. They are interested in both Jordan Pickford and Leicester City stopper Kasper Schmeichel, but have made no progress in signing either of them.

Spurs face battle for Cook
Tottenham Hotspur have yet to make a single signing this summer, but that could soon change, according to a story in The Star. They have been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s 21-year-old Lewis Cook, who joined from Leeds two years ago for just £7m. Cook could be available for £20m-30m now, and Mauricio Pochettino has been impressed by his progress. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is also said to be interested and has already been backed in the transfer market.

Leverkusen in for Edwards
German club Bayern Leverkusen are the latest Bundesliga club to target young English talent. After Ademola Lookman’s successful loan spell at RB Leipzig and Jadon Sancho’s move to Borussia Dortmund, Leverkusen have contacted Spurs, insist The Sun, about a transfer fee for their 19-year-old starlet Marcus Edwards. The teenager has failed to break through into the Spurs first team.
