North Cyprus plans to establish a new National Carrier

The TRNC could establish a new airline company or a nationals carrier to service North Cyprus and to boost tourism.

According to the Minister of Tourism Fikri Ataoğl;

Discussions are under way between the government and three airline companies including Turkish Airlines, to create a new national carrier and slash air fares to and from Ercan airport.

Airline chiefs will visit the TRNC very soon to discuss tariffs, taxes and increasing flights to North Cyprus, said Ataoğlu who also stated that they were trying to cut the high cost of airline tickets

Following the recent visit of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the TRNC, Turkish Airlines has increased the number of flights to North Cyprus from seven to eight per day, after north Cyprus President, Mustafa Akinci informed Erdogan of the problems faced by the TRNC tourist industry.
