Man residing illegally in the TRNC arrested for stealing a wallet at a car wash
An illegal resident living in north Cyprus has been arrested and detained for stealing a wallet full of money and then spending the money in a casino.
Haydar Akyüz, was arrested this week on the grounds that he had stolen a wallet full of money belonging to a car wash worker in Alsancak. The owner of the wallet had left the wallet on a chair when the accused took it away.
According to police report, the incident happened on August 23.
Police investigations revealed that the man was an illegal resident in the TRNC and had resided in the country illegally for 14 years.
Police wallet belonging to M.Ş. was found in an idle building under construction in Alsancak, but could not find the cash money in the wallet totaling 370 TL.
Police said the suspect voluntarily testified that he spent the money at a casino.
He was taken to a Girne court on charges of stealing and was sent to prison as an unconstitutional prisoner pending trial.
