Greek Cyprus police arrest man at checkpoint for trying to smuggle a foreigner in car boot

A 56 year old Greek Cypriot man living in Nicosia, south Cyprus has been arrested for trying to smuggle a foreigner into the country through the border between north and south Cyprus in the boot of his car.

The man was arrested at about 10:10apm on Monday after he was caught at Ayios Dhometios checkpoint trying to smuggle a non-Cypriot into south Cyprus in the boot of his car.

Greek Cypriot police said they were investigating a case of conspiracy to facilitate an alien to enter the Republic of Cyprus illegally.

Police said the year old Syrian national was also arrested and will appear in court on September 5 on charges of illegal entry.
