Everton win transfer Deadline Day, Man United frustrated and Tottenham Hotspur set new Premier League record of no transfer

The summer transfer window has come and gone in England with Everton making the best out of it by making three key signings but was a sad one for Manchester United who couldn't add a central defender to the team and Tottenham Hotspur who made no signing at all.

Everton completed deals for Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Bernard on Deadline Day day, as the Premier League window slammed shut for the summer.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur suffered deadline day frustration, with United failing to bring in the defender they wanted and Spurs completing a summer without any additions.

Sky Sports claimed United were "chasing a deal for Atletico Madrid's Uruguay international Diego Godin" and had made contact with the club, but Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Godin turned down a United offer. He says United matched the player's €25 million release clause and offered him a €9 million-a-season deal, but he rejected the approach and "seems determined to stay in Madrid with Diego Simeone's side."

Spurs ended the window without any new faces -- but manager Mauricio Pochettino said he is happy with his squad as it is.

Tottenham became the first Premier League club to go an entire summer without signing a single player since the transfer window was created in 2003.

Thursday's deadline passed without Spurs signing any new players, either permanently or on loan, so coach Mauricio Pochettino will open the club's new stadium with the same squad that finished third in the Premier League in May.

In addition to being the first Premier League team in 15 years to make a summer signing, Tottenham are also the only club in Europe's top five leagues and England's top four tiers without a new player this summer.

Tottenham were rebuffed in their efforts to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, with sources saying the Championship club refused to sell at any price, let alone for Spurs' £25m bid.

Paris Saint-Germain also received an enquiry from Tottenham for left-back Layvin Kurzawa, one source said, but the interest came too late.

The club made a massive effort to try to extend contracts with people like Harry Kane. He is one example but there are many examples too."

Tottenham were not big sellers, either, as they managed to hold onto Toby Alderweireld amid links to Manchester United.

Spurs can still sell or loan out players to foreign clubs whose transfer windows remain open, such as a the possibility for Vincent Janssen to go back to Fenerbahce.

Danny Rose remains open to a loan move amid reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Schalke, sources said.

The only departures from the team so far have been 19-year-old Keanan Bennetts, who never made a first-team appearance for Spurs, to Borussia Monchengladbach, and 21-year-old Anton Walkes, who made only one cup appearance in 2016 before joining Portsmouth.
